Knock knock, guess whose birthday it is today? It’s me, and I’m thrilled to share that I’m turning 48 today! I’m getting stronger, wiser and better by the day. Remember when I shared a part of my personal story with you? Some of you might still be wondering how I’ve reached this milestone!

Yes, 48 is quite young compared to a lifespan of 80 to 120 as God ordained. But not when you have sickle cell disease, when life is pegged at 20 or by reason of strength, 40. So 48 is a miracle age for me! I’m thankful for every day and the opportunity to thrive.

Let me introduce you to the force behind it all. He’s beyond protocols. He follows no procedures. His ways are past finding out. He’s merciful and kind, all loving and all powerful. In his game of life, everyone’s got a chance. He is God Almighty, the sovereign Lord, creator of the whole universe and me!

He knitted me together in my mother’s womb, purposefully and wonderfully. So I’m definitely not a mistake nor an afterthought. 

There were moments of reflection, wondering why I was born this way. Until I came across the scripture in John 9:3. I then realized that “this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in me.”  

Indeed, God’s works are displayed in me in no small way! Can you believe I’m here today?! God has made the impossible possible!

He shut the mouths of lions that came to eat me up! The enemy that came to devour my blood and leave me lifeless, he consumed them all. His second name is Consuming Fire. He has parted the overwhelming floods and stilled the turbulent waters in my life several times. Ah, when I think of the many fires he has brought me through unscathed, my heart wells with gratitude and my mouth cannot hold back praise. So in adoration, I am here to give him praise and let the world know that there’s a God whose faithfulness is unmatched!

You too can trust him with your burdens.

Experience His goodness and care. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Cast your cares upon him for he cares about you…  “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness… It’s a good thing to wait on God… He will surely come through for you. Say to yourself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”

“For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone.” Lamentations 3: 21-33

While waiting, wait in faith, wait in hope, wait in love, wait in patience… Be doing the little things that make a big difference. Prioritize your well-being- eat healthy, sleep well, exercise as much as your body can take, and be intentional about your happiness- Avoid draining relationships, quit overly stressful jobs and make choices that bring fulfillment. Pursue joy and peace. Choose to stay happy.
